BHHS Theatre presents 'Hadestown' Nov. 12-14

Bloomfield Hills High School Theatre will bring the Tony Award-winning musical "Hadestown" to its stage in November with three performances over three days.

The teen edition of Anaïs Mitchell's show runs Nov. 12 and Nov. 13 at 7 p.m., with a 2 p.m. matinee on Nov. 14, according to the school. Tickets are available at bhhs.ludus.com.

"Hadestown" follows two intertwining love stories. Young dreamers Orpheus and Eurydice, and King Hades and Persephone, journey to the underworld and back. Mitchell wrote the book, music and lyrics, drawing on American folk music and New Orleans jazz. The Broadway production won eight Tony Awards in 2019, including Best Musical, and took the 2020 Grammy Award for Best Musical Theater Album.

The Teen Edition is a full-length adaptation modified for performance by actors 19 and younger. It is designed for family audiences and available only to schools and youth groups.

Theatre director Mary Bogrette leads the BHHS program. In a Ludus blog feature on the BHHS theatre program, Bogrette said the program stands out "because students have an opportunity to get real experience, mentored by an adult."

Sophomore Lillian Tang won the Sutton Foster Award in May as Michigan's top female high school musical theater performer, based on her role in the fall 2025 production of "The Hello Girls." Tang credited the community's support after receiving the honor.

"I just want everyone to know that I'm going to try my best to make Bloomfield Hills proud," Tang said in June after the award ceremony.
