Bloomfield Township voters approved two local millage renewals by wide margins in the Aug. 4 primary, after leading Oakland County in early-voting turnout at 26.3% of registered voters.

The road maintenance millage passed 72% to 28%, with 10,270 yes votes. The public safety millage for police and fire cleared by an even wider margin, 74% to 26%, drawing 10,568 yes votes, according to unofficial results from ClickOnDetroit.

Both are renewals, not new taxes.

Together, the two levies will raise roughly $15 million in their first year: $3.9 million from the road millage (0.6575 mills for 10 years) and $11 million from the public safety levy (1.8428 mills for 10 years), according to the Detroit Free Press.

As we reported Aug. 3, Bloomfield Township had posted the county's highest early-voting rate before polls opened. Countywide, data analyst Kurt Metzger reported in an Aug. 6 analysis that Huntington Woods finished first in overall turnout at 64%, while Pontiac, Royal Oak Township and Hazel Park ranked lowest, according to Oakland County 115.
