Douglas Campbell is running for Michigan governor as the Green Party’s candidate in the Nov. 3 general election.
In his League of Women Voters questionnaire responses, he identifies affordability, energy and education as his top priorities.
Campbell and lieutenant governor running mate Bobbie Clay appear on the Michigan Department of State’s official candidate list. The Green Party of Michigan’s candidate page also lists their nominations.
The other gubernatorial candidates on the state’s five listed tickets are Jocelyn Benson (Democratic), John James (Republican), Anthony Hudson (Libertarian) and Donna Brandenburg (U.S. Taxpayers).

Experience
Campbell describes himself as a retired registered professional engineer and substitute high school teacher in his League of Women Voters responses.
His previous campaigns include Green Party bids for Michigan’s 14th Congressional District in 2012 and 11th Congressional District in 2024, according to Ballotpedia. His BallotReady profile also lists the 2024 congressional candidacy.
On the issues
In his VOTE411 responses, Campbell outlines these proposals:
- Education: End the charter school system, fund schools through a statewide budget, improve school buildings and help students from working-class and low-income families study abroad.
- Jobs and income: Create government jobs and establish universal basic income, a system of regular, unconditional income payments.
- Health care: Develop a nonprofit national health system, beginning with state-level efforts involving hospitals at risk of closing.
- Energy and environment: Close Line 5, convert electric and gas utilities into municipal agencies, strengthen building energy standards and expand solar power and electric vehicle use.
