Top-seeded Americans Trey Hilderbrand and James Tracy take the court Friday, July 24, at 11 a.m. for a doubles quarterfinal at the Cranbrook Tennis Classic in Bloomfield Hills, facing the international pairing of Pablo Llamas Ruiz and Abedallah Shelbayh.

The match is one of the marquee contests as the ATP Challenger 125 tournament enters its final weekend at the Cranbrook Schools Tennis Complex.

Hilderbrand, 26, and Tracy earned their quarterfinal spot with a straight-sets win over Goldhoff and Harper earlier in the draw. Tracy, ranked No. 33 in ATP doubles as of Monday, July 20, brings the highest individual ranking of the four players on court. Ruiz and Shelbayh bring recent Challenger Tour experience but face the tournament's top-seeded doubles team.

The Cranbrook Tennis Classic, founded by David DeMuth in 2023, won the 2025 ATP Challenger Tournament of the Year award. The 2026 edition marks its elevation to Challenger 125 status, the second-highest tier on the ATP Challenger Tour.

DeMuth told Hour Detroit on July 15 that the 2026 field is the strongest and most internationally diverse in tournament history, with players arriving from China, Spain, France, Great Britain, Tunisia, and Estonia. The singles draw features Michael Zheng, a two-time NCAA champion who reached the third round of Wimbledon, along with defending champion Mark Lajal of Estonia and former world No. 37 Mackenzie McDonald.

Michigan connections dot the bracket. Reilly Opelka, a St. Joseph native once ranked No. 17 in the world, is in the singles draw alongside Okemos product and Michigan State graduate Ozan Baris, plus University of Michigan alumni Evan King and Andrew Fenty.

The tournament is broadcast on Tennis Channel for fans who can't make it courtside. All proceeds benefit the Palmer Park Tennis Academy in Detroit.
