Detroit Country Day senior Halle Heineman shot a two-day 158 to win the MHSAA Division 3 girls golf individual title Oct. 17.

Heineman carded a first-round 76 on Friday, Oct. 16, and an 82 in Saturday's second round at Katke at Ferris State University in Big Rapids, finishing four strokes ahead of Ionia senior Lila Redder, according to the MHSAA.

The championship capped a steady climb for the Beverly Hills school's top golfer. Heineman tied for seventh at the 2025 Division 3 finals. The MHSAA had identified her entering the weekend as the highest returning individual placer in the field.

She delivered.

"I made that last putt, and I started crying. The adrenaline is just so high, and I can't believe I'm done," Heineman told the MHSAA. "I've dreamt about winning as a team, but individually not really … just a month ago, I was 'Oh, maybe I can.'"

The Yellowjackets placed fourth as a team after finishing third a year ago. Grand Rapids NorthPointe Christian ran away with the team championship, posting a 721 to beat runner-up Montague by 37 strokes. NorthPointe won the Division 4 title last season before moving up to Division 3 this fall.

Montague finished second at 758, and Lansing Catholic placed third at 762.

Rough weather hit the course Friday, Oct. 16, but NorthPointe built a 14-stroke lead after the opening round and extended it Saturday, finishing at 356-365 for the weekend, according to the MHSAA.

Among other individual finishers, Redder closed her high school career as runner-up at 162. Williamston senior Paige Radebach placed fourth at 167. MLive reported results across all four MHSAA divisions.

Heineman's individual crown adds to a strong fall for Detroit Country Day athletics. The Yellowjackets boys tennis team claimed the Division 3 state championship the same day, as the Bulletin reported Monday.

With the golf season complete, Heineman closes her Yellowjackets career as a state champion.
