Birmingham Seaholm's boys soccer team lost for the first time this season, falling 2-1 to Clarkston on Tuesday, Sept. 8.
Senior captain Liam Kerr scored the Maples' lone goal, with Noah Baldwin providing the assist, according to Seaholm athletics reporter Bill Watson on X. The goal wasn't enough to overcome a Clarkston side that came into the contest as a key league opponent.
The defeat drops Seaholm to 7-1-1 on the year.
The Maples had been unbeaten through their first eight games, building one of the stronger starts in the Oakland Activities Association. That run included a 2-0 season-opening win over Brother Rice on Aug. 19 in the seventh annual Keith Bernacki Memorial Cup. Kerr and fellow senior captain TJ Kotila each found the net in the final 11 minutes of that game to seal the victory.
Seaholm kept the momentum going with a 2-1 win over Berkley before the Clarkston matchup. Ronin McLoughlin and Rowan Hanoosh scored in that game, according to Patch. Patch had also identified the Sept. 8 Clarkston visit as a key league contest.
Kerr has been one of the Maples' most productive players all season. He and fellow senior captains Kotila and Brody Feldy have anchored a Seaholm squad that opened the year with high expectations and delivered results through most of September.
The Maples entered the Clarkston game ranked No. 9 in Division 2 in the Michigan High School Soccer Coaches Association (MIHSSCA) poll for the week of Sept. 7, according to The News Herald. That ranking was published one day before the loss.
Seaholm looks to get back on track when it hosts Oxford on Tuesday, Sept. 15, at 7:15 p.m.
