Bloomfield Township road crews cleared more than 30 storm-downed trees from local roadways by Saturday, Sept. 5. The cleanup followed severe storms that knocked out power to more than 388,000 customers across Southeast Michigan.

The township's Department of Public Works posted the cleanup update on X Saturday morning. Staff also began cleaning gravel roads damaged by the storms. Trees already removed from roadways will be picked up later, the township said.

DTE Energy, meanwhile, was pushing toward full restoration. Brian Calka, DTE's senior vice president of distribution operations, told Fox 2 Detroit on Saturday morning that 80% of affected customers had power back. More than 4,000 crews were working to reach 90% by the end of Saturday, with full restoration expected by the end of Sunday, Sept. 6.

The storms began late Wednesday, Sept. 2, and continued Thursday, Sept. 3, bringing flooding rain, 2-inch hail and winds between 45 and 70 mph, according to the Oakland Press. A tornado confirmed by the National Weather Service touched down in Detroit on Sept. 3. It was rated EF-2 with estimated wind speeds of 115 mph and cut a 3.5-mile path, the first to hit the city in nearly 30 years.

The damage was widespread. By Thursday evening, more than 279,000 DTE customers were without power. Overnight restoration brought that number down, but additional storms Friday morning pushed it back to 265,000 by mid-morning, according to the Oakland Press.

By 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 4, the count had dropped to 213,000. More than 30,000 customers remained without power as of Sunday morning, Sept. 6, according to Fox 2 Detroit.

Severe weather earlier in the week cut power to 49,000 across Oakland County, as we reported Sept. 3. No Bloomfield Township-specific outage count has been released.
