Residents on four Bloomfield Village streets lost driveway access Thursday, July 23, as Allied Construction began pouring curbs on the second sides of Amberly, Endsleigh, Covington Place, and Glengarry.
The work, part of the Green Section road reconstruction project, will keep driveways blocked for up to two weeks while concrete cures, according to a construction update posted July 22 on the Bloomfield Village Roads website by Cathy Weissenborn on behalf of the Road Commission for Oakland County. Allied placed door notices on affected homes telling residents to move all vehicles out of garages and driveways before 6:30 a.m. on their scheduled start date. Curb installation continues Friday, July 24.
All timing is weather-permitting.
What comes next
The schedule picks up quickly. Goretski Construction will pour new driveway approaches on the same Phase 1 streets Tuesday, July 28, and Wednesday, July 29. Allied will simultaneously backfill behind the freshly poured curbs.
That same week, crews shift attention to Phase 2 streets: Tuckahoe, Sunnydale, Hupp Cross, Morningview, Drury, and Overhill. Allied will strip sod and topsoil between the street and sidewalk, then begin removing old curbs and driveway approaches toward the end of the week of Monday, July 27. When approaches are removed, Allied will place temporary stone so residents can still reach their driveways, though access may be interrupted for several hours during the swap.
Don's Restoration plans to begin topsoil and sod work behind the new Phase 1 curbs Saturday, August 1, once concrete is set and driveway access restored. That restoration continues through the week of Monday, August 3, when Don's sprinkler crew will also follow Allied's removal work in Phase 2 to repair and reset irrigation lines.
Curb and driveway installation on Phase 2's second sides is expected in mid-August.
Paving timeline
Allied plans to pave Phase 1 and Phase 2 before starting Bradway Boulevard. The RCOC schedule targets milling and grading in Phase 1 for the week of Monday, August 24, with asphalt paving during the week of Monday, August 31. Streets will be completely closed to all traffic on paving day, with no driveway access in or out. Allied will pave in two layers, or "lifts," with several weeks possible between the first and second passes.
Construction on Bradway Boulevard is expected after Labor Day. Allied plans to close intersections with cross-streets and limit through-traffic. RCOC will coordinate with Birmingham Public Schools to adjust bus routes and stops.
Where to park
The update lists several alternatives for Phase 1 residents: arrange with a neighbor across the street; park on Glengarry north of the Circle or on Glengarry Circle (good for western Amberly, Covington Place, and Endsleigh); park on Glengarry south of Bradway or on Bradway itself; or, for eastern ends of Amberly, Covington Place, and Endsleigh, try Oak, Yarmouth, or Kent Ridge Court.
The update warns against parking on any street with active construction, noting parked cars slow progress. It also urges drivers to slow down in construction zones, citing "near misses with drivers traveling far too fast on streets with active construction, often with cell phones in their hands."
Project background
The Green Section is the fifth and final phase of the Bloomfield Village road reconstruction, covering nearly 14 miles of neighborhood roads. The Bloomfield Township Board of Trustees voted unanimously on Monday, April 27, to approve the Special Assessment District. Each homeowner's final assessment came in at $39,373, down from the $52,570 petition estimate, after Allied submitted the lowest of three bids and RCOC committed roughly $1 million in additional funding.
"This project is unique because it's the largest, most expensive special-assessment district we've ever done," RCOC spokesman Craig Bryson told the Oakland Press in December 2025, when the funding was announced.
