Bradway is closed to through-traffic between Cranbrook and Lahser in Bloomfield Township as contractor Allied begins a broader phase of road construction.

Barricades went up Monday, Sept. 21, blocking nine cross-street intersections: Cranbrook Cross, Glengarry, Williamsbury, Hamilton, Overhill, Hupp Cross, Wooddale, Roland and Tuckahoe. Drivers cannot cross or turn onto Bradway from any of those streets, according to Bloomfield Village Roads, which posted the closure notice Sept. 20.

The entire Green Section is a designated construction zone, according to Bloomfield Village Roads.

Police can ticket drivers who ignore "No Thru-Traffic" and "Road Closed" signs or disobey flaggers. Bloomfield Village Roads acknowledged the closures are "a significant inconvenience" but called them a necessary safety step for workers and residents.

Bradway residents can still reach their driveways but may need to enter from the opposite end of the street. Equipment and materials line both sides of the road, and active construction may cause delays during the workday. Bloomfield Village Roads urged residents to stay well back from equipment and workers and proceed only when a crew member gives the go-ahead.

Allied plans to lay the second and final layer of asphalt on Phase 1 as early as Wednesday, Sept. 23. Recent rain has pushed back the paving schedule for the Green section and other Allied projects. No firm end date for the closures has been announced; the detour map on villageroads.org says they will last until Bradway is fully paved.

Garbage pickup during the closures has not been finalized. The project team said it is working with Priority Waste to confirm how Friday collection will be handled and expects to post an update by end of day Wednesday, Sept. 23.

According to an Aug. 5 construction update, the Road Commission for Oakland County (RCOC) asked Birmingham Public Schools to adjust bus routes so students would not need to cross Bradway during construction. BPS is responsible for making those changes and contacting affected families directly.

As we reported Sept. 17, a separate closure of the Bradway-Lahser intersection is also part of the project.
