Bradway and Cranbrook Cross in Bloomfield Township are scheduled to close to all traffic and parking Monday, Nov. 2, while contractor Allied lays the first course of asphalt on both streets, weather permitting.

The closure will block all traffic and driveway access on both streets as part of the Green Section road project, a 3.02-mile rebuild funded through Special Assessment District No. 430. Residents will not be able to enter or leave their driveways until the work is done and the asphalt cools, according to an Oct. 28 construction update from Bloomfield Village Roads.

Vehicles left on Bradway during paving will be towed.

Allied will run two pavers side by side to cover Bradway’s full width, starting at Cranbrook Road and working west toward Lahser. Asphalt trucks will enter from Overhill on the east end and Lahser on the west and stage on Bradway. No parking will be allowed on Overhill to keep the truck route clear.

A second layer of asphalt could follow as early as Tuesday, Nov. 3, but the update noted that timing depends on the weather forecast, which called for rain much of the week. Overhill paving is expected to be scheduled when Bradway’s top layer is complete.

What residents need to do

Bradway and Cranbrook Cross residents must move vehicles off the streets and move any vehicles they will need out of their driveways before 7 a.m. on paving day. Side streets are the main parking alternative, except for Overhill south of Bradway. The update asked residents to leave room between parked cars and corners and to avoid parking on both sides of a street near driveways.

Landscapers and other contractors should be told they cannot park on Bradway until paving is finished.

Allied will have golf carts on paving day to shuttle residents between their homes and parked vehicles. Residents can arrange a pickup by calling 248-638-3190.

Mail still suspended

The U.S. Postal Service suspended mail delivery on Bradway earlier in October after a mail truck was damaged in an edge drain ditch, according to a separate Bloomfield Village Roads notice. As of the Oct. 28 update, delivery remained suspended.

Bradway residents have been directed to pick up mail at the post office at 2050 South Blvd., west of Opdyke Road. FedEx, UPS and Amazon deliveries appeared unaffected, according to the Oct. 7 notice.

As we reported Oct. 15, milling on Bradway was scheduled to begin Oct. 20 and the first course of asphalt had been anticipated for the week of Nov. 2.

What’s ahead

Once paving wraps up, Allied will begin structure adjustments on Bradway. Don’s will continue restoration work until completed. All timelines are weather permitting.
