Cranbrook Kingswood’s varsity football team must forfeit three wins this season after the Catholic High School League ruled the Bloomfield Hills school failed to file required eligibility forms for two players, Downtown Publications reported.
The Michigan High School Athletic Association upheld the league’s ruling, according to Downtown’s account of an Oct. 24 email to Upper School families from Director of Schools Jeff Suzik and Athletic Director Keith Levinthal.
Cranbrook Kingswood does not appear in the 2026 MHSAA football playoff brackets, released Oct. 25. District semifinals begin Oct. 30-31.
The forfeitures cover games Cranbrook won against Detroit Mumford, 25-22; Detroit Loyola, 39-0; and Our Lady of the Lakes, 64-0, Downtown reported.
School leaders said in the email that MHSAA had previously approved both students to play. They said the league’s decision concerned a separate CHSL administrative requirement.
The administrators acknowledged that Cranbrook had not submitted the league form before the season. They disputed the rule’s clarity and argued that taking away three victories and barring the students from playing for the rest of the season was excessive, according to Downtown.
The school pursued appeals through league and archdiocesan officials and met with MHSAA’s executive director, the email said.
Downtown reported that school officials declined to release additional information when contacted.
Cranbrook finished its regular-season schedule with a 66-21 win over Allen Park Cabrini on Friday, Oct. 23, according to MaxPreps.
