Groves head football coach Brendan Flaherty was inducted into the Michigan High School Football Coaches Association (MHSFCA) Hall of Fame in June, the organization confirmed.

Birmingham Public Schools announced the honor on Saturday, Sept. 19, calling it a recognition of Flaherty's career-long impact on student-athletes. The district named the Michigan High School Coaches Association in its announcement. The MHSFCA, the football-specific body, confirmed Flaherty as one of 14 coaches inducted into its Hall of Fame in June 2026.

The MHSFCA honor requires 100 victories as a head coach, a minimum of 20 years coaching high school football in Michigan, or both. Flaherty's MHSFCA Hall of Fame bio lists a career coaching record of 180-130 over 30 years, including stops at Groves and Royal Oak Shrine, clearing both thresholds. Flaherty has led the Falcons since at least the 2004 season, according to MaxPreps, giving him more than two decades at the helm of the Beverly Hills program. Hometown Life referenced Flaherty having 25 seasons as Groves' head football coach in a November 2025 report.

Flaherty also coaches Groves' unified basketball team.

His tenure has produced some of the program's strongest stretches. In 2024-25, the Falcons went 12-1 and reached the Division 2 state semifinal. Groves followed that with a 9-4 campaign in 2025-26.

The Hall of Fame news arrived on the same day Flaherty's squad beat rival Birmingham Seaholm 14-13 in an Oakland Activities Association (OAA) Blue game at Groves. Jeremiah Whitley scored the go-ahead touchdown with 6:45 left in the fourth quarter, according to The Oakland Press.

After the win, Flaherty described what the rivalry means to his program. "It's bragging rights, and we just respect those guys so much," he said. "Every year, it doesn't matter the records. That's a hell of a high school football game, you know."

The Falcons improved to 3-1 overall (2-1 in the OAA) with the win.
