Democrat Melanie Macey and Republican Mike Steger will square off Tuesday, Nov. 3, for the open Michigan House District 6 seat. Both appear on the Michigan Department of State's candidate list.
Election results are pending. This article will be updated as election officials release vote totals.
The district covers Bloomfield Township, Berkley, Huntington Woods and portions of Birmingham, Royal Oak and Southfield, according to the Oakland County Times. The seat carries a two-year term.
Macey won a three-way Democratic primary on Aug. 4, beating David Lauer and Charlie Gandy-Thompson, according to ClickOnDetroit's primary results. Steger was the sole Republican on the primary ballot, according to the state's primary candidate list.
What's at stake
Control of the Michigan House hangs in the balance across the state. Republicans hold a 58-52 advantage in the chamber, while Democrats control the state Senate, according to 270toWin. District 6 is listed as an open seat with no incumbent running by MultiState Elections.
When to expect results
Polls in District 6 are open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. Eastern, according to the Michigan Secretary of State's voting guidance. Anyone in line by 8 p.m. can vote.
Unofficial returns may take time as election workers verify and count absentee ballots received on Election Day, the Department of State said Nov. 2. The department recommends county clerk websites for the latest election night totals.
