Birmingham and Bloomfield Township residents can ride SMART services without paying a fare on Election Day, Tuesday, Nov. 3.
The fare waiver covers fixed-route buses, SMART Flex and paratransit services, according to SMART’s website. Riders should check individual service hours, coverage and reservation requirements before traveling.
Local transportation options
SMART lists fixed-route buses, Connector rides and ADA Paratransit among its services for Birmingham and Bloomfield Township.
Connector provides curb-to-curb transportation with advance reservations. Rides are available on a first-come, first-served basis.
ADA Paratransit serves eligible riders whose disabilities prevent them from using SMART’s regular fixed-route buses. It also requires advance reservations and operates within a defined service area.
Residents can call SMART at 866-962-5515 to discuss trip options and reservations.
Check the voting location before traveling
Oakland County lists Route 375 as a transit option for the Bloomfield Township Public Library early voting site at 1099 Lone Pine Road. The county directs riders to exit at Telegraph and Lone Pine.
However, that listing applies to early voting, which runs through Sunday, Nov. 1. The Election Day fare waiver does not cover those earlier trips.
Birmingham and Bloomfield Township voters should confirm their assigned Nov. 3 polling place rather than assume it is the early voting location. Voting information is available on Oakland County’s elections website.
Riders can check schedules and plan trips through SMART or call 866-962-5515.
