Birmingham Seaholm built a 41-0 lead through three quarters and cruised past Waterford Mott 41-20 in the Maples' home opener Thursday, Sept. 10.

The OAA Blue Division matchup was anything but the close contest The Oakland Press had predicted. The preview called it "one of the early games that could decide the OAA Blue." Seaholm's answer was emphatic.

Senior quarterback and team captain Brody Gable led the offense with two touchdowns, according to a post-game recap on X by Bill Watson.

Theo Miesel matched him with two scores. Senior running back Ben Swisher, another team captain, added a touchdown and recovered two fumbles. Will Forberg, the third Seaholm captain, punched in a rushing touchdown.

Six touchdowns. Zero points allowed through three quarters.

Mott did not score until the fourth quarter, when the Corsairs put up 20 points. The final margin obscured how lopsided the game was for 36 minutes.

The win moves Seaholm to 2-1 on the season. The Maples lost to Milford in Week 1 at Michigan Stadium in Ann Arbor, then routed Royal Oak 50-7 in Week 2. In that Royal Oak game, Gable connected with Wesley McPeam on a 45-yard touchdown pass in the first quarter as Seaholm jumped out to a 14-0 lead. The offense has not slowed since.

Mott, which entered Thursday's game 2-0 with wins over Troy Athens and Avondale, drops to 2-1. The Corsairs had been outscoring opponents heading into the matchup but had not faced a defense that created turnovers the way Swisher and the Maples did.

All three Seaholm captains are seniors. Swisher wears No. 3 and Forberg No. 21, according to the Seaholm Maples Football account on X.
