Bloomfield Hills High School named 53 seniors who earned College Board National Recognition awards they can list on college and scholarship applications, the district announced Tuesday, Oct. 6.
The bulk of the honorees received the School Recognition Award, which goes to top-performing students at each high school. Five seniors earned the First Generation Recognition Award, given to high-achieving students whose parents do not hold a bachelor's degree: Alissa Abraham, Gabriel Arrington, Wyatt Groves, Vivian Kim and Maya-Ilyanne Senawe.
Groves appears on both lists.
To qualify, students must meet the applicable top-10% threshold on the PSAT/NMSQT or PSAT 10 — among their high school’s test takers for School Recognition, or their state’s first-generation test takers for First Generation Recognition — or earn a 3 or higher on at least two Advanced Placement exams before 11th grade. They also need a cumulative grade-point average of 3.3 or higher, according to the College Board's program page.
The recognition gives students an official academic credential for their applications. According to the College Board's program page, the awards also help colleges identify and connect with high-performing students nationwide.
Several of the honorees had already been recognized on the district's National Merit recognition list for Sept. 28. Meghan Harper, Jared She, Jack Sloan and Evan Welch were National Merit Semifinalists. Brock Atto, Ellie BenEzra, Rohan Chopra, Leeland Dunstone, Jordyn Goldstein, Leah Goldstein, Groves, Grant Moyer and Mikael Sparkes were Commended Students.
