Beverly Hills is updating its Master Plan and rewriting its Zoning Ordinance, and residents can help shape both.
The Village of Beverly Hills hired planning firm Giffels Webster for the two-year project, which aims to set a community-supported vision through a 2050 planning horizon. The effort covers housing, transportation, environment and sustainability, economic development and land use, according to the village's fall 2026 newsletter.
The project kicked off in July with a joint Planning Commission–Village Council meeting. At that session, participants completed a SWOTAR exercise, identifying strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, threats, aspirations and results to set the plan's direction.
A project website has been developed to host mini-surveys, draft documents and project updates. The village said residents will have opportunities to take a series of short, topic-based surveys throughout the project, with the first round planned for October. Staff and consultants also plan to organize focus groups and work with local schools on student engagement.
The current Master Plan was adopted in March 2016 and renewed by the Planning Commission in 2021. The village's planning page describes Beverly Hills as a built-out community where the updated plan will respond to changing conditions in demographics, housing, the economy, the environment and transportation.
The Zoning Ordinance rewrite will produce a new regulatory document that implements the updated Master Plan. Village officials said the goal is to improve clarity and predictability for residents, applicants and decision-makers.
Planning Commission meetings normally take place on the fourth Wednesday of each month at 7 p.m. The village expects regular Master Plan discussions during the project. The newsletter lists the next Planning Commission meeting for Wednesday, Oct. 28.
