Kristina "KC" Wenson, a Bloomfield Hills Andover graduate, won a Primetime Emmy last week, according to Bloomfield Hills Schools, as executive producer of the HBO Max series "DTF St. Louis."

The seven-episode dark comedy miniseries, created by Steven Conrad and starring Jason Bateman, Linda Cardellini and David Harbour, took home seven Emmys at the 78th Primetime Emmy Awards. Those included Outstanding Limited or Anthology Series, the category in which Wenson was credited, according to the Television Academy's official database.

Wenson produced the show through her company Bravo Axolotl. The series premiered March 1 and was filmed in Atlanta, where Wenson lives.

In a Q&A published Wednesday, Sept. 23, by Bloomfield Hills Schools, Wenson described a winding path from Andover to Hollywood. She played volleyball at Lake Forest College in Illinois and majored in English after her parents told her that strong reading and writing skills could carry her anywhere. Her original plan was law school for contract law. Before that, she had wanted to become a sports agent.

The pivot came through a family connection. Her father, who worked in the film industry, helped her land a production assistant job on the movie "Ocean's 8."

"I fell into it … I never imagined myself working in the film industry but now I can't imagine myself doing anything else," Wenson told the district.

Wenson named several BHS teachers who left a mark, including Mrs. Buford, Bruce Kezlarian (at Model) and Skillman. She singled out English teacher Mrs. Fagenson, saying Fagenson "had a real passion for English and the power of storytelling. One I now have!"

She also credited a lifetime of playing sports with teaching her to manage the range of personalities on a film set.

Wenson's ties to the district remain close. According to Bloomfield Hills Schools, her mother, Carol Wenson, is a paraeducator at South Hills Middle School and has coached several Bloomfield Hills sports teams over the years. The district says Wenson remains close with her family and frequently visits her childhood home.

She lives in Atlanta and plans to move to Los Angeles.
