Alisa Peskin-Shepherd, founder of Bloomfield Hills family law firm Transitions Legal, has been named a Notable Leader in the Law by Crain's Detroit Business.

The recognition, announced Tuesday, Aug. 25 by the Birmingham Bloomfield Chamber, highlights Peskin-Shepherd's 30-year career and her shift away from courtroom litigation toward collaborative divorce and mediation.

Peskin-Shepherd founded Transitions Legal in 2013 at 4190 Telegraph Road. In 2025, she eliminated litigation from the firm entirely, making it solely a center for collaborative divorce and mediation. The approach keeps divorcing couples out of court.

"I want people to know they have options," Peskin-Shepherd said in the announcement. "And I want to expand what is possible in the world of divorce law."

She became certified in collaborative divorce early in her career, before many colleagues knew the approach existed, according to the press release. Trained professionals negotiate agreements for both parties rather than fighting in a courtroom.

The Crain's honor follows other recent milestones for Peskin-Shepherd. In summer 2026, she was appointed to the board of directors for the International Academy of Collaborative Professionals (IACP), after serving on the organization's diversity and inclusion and fundraising committees. She previously served six years on the board of the Collaborative Practice Institute of Michigan and has spent the past three years on the leadership team of the Collaborative Divorce of Southeast Michigan pod.

Peskin-Shepherd earned her law degree from Case Western Reserve University School of Law. She has been recognized as a Super Lawyer every year since 2015 and has received Best in the Law honors from the Detroit Jewish News and DBusiness Magazine multiple times since 2011. Michigan Lawyers Weekly previously named her a Leader in the Law.

She also does pro bono mediation work through the Family Law Assistance Program and is a fellow of the Oakland County Bar Foundation.
