Bloomfield Hills Schools students will again receive breakfast and lunch at no cost when classes resume Tuesday, Sept. 8.

Michigan's universal school meal program continues for the 2026-27 school year, the district confirmed on its website Aug. 25. Every PreK-12 public school student in the state qualifies for free breakfast and lunch under the program. Bloomfield Hills Schools is participating again for 2026-27.

The district is also asking all families to complete the Nutrition and Education Benefits form, formerly called the Free/Reduced Lunch Application. Michigan Department of Education guidance says the form must still be collected annually at traditional claiming schools even when students receive meals for free.

What families should know about meals

A la carte items still cost money. So do extra menu options beyond the standard breakfast and lunch. Families can load funds onto a child's lunch account or pay cash at the register for those purchases.

Students with food allergies or dietary restrictions need a separate Special Dietary Needs form, also posted on the district's food services page. The district asks families to submit that form so cafeteria staff can accommodate students safely.

First day details

The first day of school is Tuesday, Sept. 8. K-8 students and Bloomin' Preschool attend a half day. High school students attend a full day.
