An unknown man walked through an unlocked back door on Kemper Avenue and stole a vase holding about $200 in change. The home invasion was among three incidents highlighted in Bloomfield Township police's weekly report.

Officers handled 556 calls for service and made 16 arrests during the week of Aug. 24–30. Lt. Nick Soley, the department's public information officer, detailed the activity in the weekly media report issued Monday, Aug. 31.

Kemper Avenue home invasion

A homeowner in the 1100 block of Kemper Avenue reported a home invasion on Saturday, Aug. 29. The break-in occurred Friday, Aug. 28, between 12:30 p.m. and 1 p.m., police said.

A neighbor saw an unknown male knocking at the front door before walking to the backyard. The suspect entered through an unlocked back door and took a vase containing approximately $200 in change.

The case has been turned over to the Bloomfield Township Investigations Unit. Anyone with information can call the department at 248-433-7755.

Porch package theft on Glenwood Court

On Tuesday, Aug. 25, police took a larceny report from the 1000 block of Glenwood Court. A resident had ordered Apple headphones valued at $549 from Apple.com.

FedEx records showed the package was delivered to the front porch on Monday, Aug. 24, at about 4 p.m. When the victim went to retrieve it at 5 p.m., the package had been opened and the headphones were gone.

That case is also with the Investigations Unit.

Target retail fraud

On Friday, Aug. 28, at 9:12 p.m., officers responded to Target at 2400 S. Telegraph Road for a retail fraud. A 34-year-old Waterford woman allegedly selected items, scanned some but not all at self-checkout and tried to leave without paying.

Target loss prevention staff told officers the woman was known to them for similar behavior in the past, though it had not been previously reported. Officers recovered about $60 in merchandise. The suspect was cited for retail fraud and released pending a court appearance.

Weekly arrest and crash totals

The 16 arrests included four for driving on a suspended license, two for failing to stop and identify after a crash and two for license or registration violations. Officers also arrested two on misdemeanor warrants and two for driving without a license. One arrest each was made for failing to report a crash, operating while intoxicated, operating under the influence of drugs, and retail fraud.

Officers investigated 33 crashes: 13 property-damage, eight personal-injury, 10 hit-and-run, one on private property and one car-versus-deer collision.
