Christ Church Cranbrook is calling on volunteers to prepare and deliver meals for families in need as its annual Lighthouse Service Week continues through Saturday, Oct. 17, in Bloomfield Hills.
The effort began Sunday, Oct. 11, according to the church calendar.
The Episcopal congregation at 470 Church Road is preparing breakfast, lunch and dinner for families served by two Pontiac-based nonprofits: Lighthouse and Micah 6 Community.
Breakfast and lunch kits are delivered at the beginning of Service Week. Volunteers also prepare and package hot dinners each afternoon in the church kitchen, according to church posts describing the effort.
Volunteer roles include donating groceries, preparing ingredients, packaging meals and making deliveries.
Parishioner Frances Hammond has participated in Lighthouse Week and its predecessor, SOS Week, across three churches for almost 30 years. In an Oct. 7 church blog post, she described bringing meals directly to families.
“I knock on the door and call, ‘Christ Church Cranbrook with dinner!’” Hammond wrote.
She said the conversations that follow give her a chance to hear about families’ days and discuss their meals. Hammond credited Tim Miller with leading last year’s cooking team and said she signed up for both preparation and delivery this year.
Lighthouse, headquartered on Woodward Avenue in Pontiac, reported serving 110,222 individuals through its three pantry locations and home-delivery program in 2025.
Micah 6 Community works on neighborhood development and food access in Pontiac, including community gardens and its Sprout Fresh Food Store.
An Oct. 12 church post encouraged congregants to contribute groceries or help prepare, package and deliver meals.
Residents can sign up to volunteer or use the church’s donation link to contribute food or funds.
