Three area football players landed on MLive's list of top Metro Detroit wide receivers for the 2026 season, published Friday, Oct. 2.
Detroit Country Day senior Anthony Cartwright and Brother Rice pass-catchers Christian Marshall and Tyler Trusel all earned spots on the regional list compiled by MLive's Keith Dunlap.
Cartwright, a 235-pound tight end who lines up as a wideout, is committed to Oregon after drawing more than 40 scholarship offers. He caught 42 passes for 638 yards and six touchdowns as a junior, according to MLive's Player of the Year watch list published in August. MLive called him "a matchup nightmare for defenses" who can also dominate as a blocker.
Both Brother Rice receivers have drawn major-college offers.
Marshall, a 5-foot-11 sophomore, started as a freshman and already holds offers from Arizona State, Kentucky and Kansas, among others. He and Trusel combined for 35 receiving yards on a key third-quarter drive against Warren De La Salle in Brother Rice's 31-28 Catholic League Central win Sept. 11.
Later in that game, Marshall turned a short pass from sophomore quarterback Drake Martin into a 39-yard gain, as The Oakland Press reported.
"It was supposed to be a screen pass to me, but the defense bit on it so I went upfield, Drake made a play and I got the YAC (yards after catch), made a play," Marshall told The Oakland Press after the De La Salle game.
Trusel, a junior, has continued to build on a strong sophomore campaign. Michigan, Indiana, Nebraska and Michigan State are among the programs that have offered him. He added a 27-yard catch against De La Salle that nearly reached the end zone.
Head coach Aaron Marshall, in his third season, has overseen a sharp turnaround. Brother Rice went 2-7 in 2024 and improved to 6-5 last season. Cartwright's Beverly Hills-based Country Day squad competes in the Catholic High School League.
