Birmingham residents looking for free weekend plans in August won't have to look far.
Three events in downtown and Booth Park kick off within nine days of each other, and the city's parks are getting a cash infusion and hundreds of new trees.
Outdoor Movie Night: Friday, Aug. 7
The Birmingham Shopping District's Outdoor Movie Night returns to Booth Park on Friday, Aug. 7 with a screening of the animated film "The Bad Guys." Pre-show entertainment and giveaways start at 6:30 p.m.; the movie rolls at 7:30 p.m. Admission is free.
Corn Festival: Sunday, Aug. 9
Two days later, the Birmingham Farmers Market hosts its annual Corn Festival on Sunday, Aug. 9. The market, which runs every Sunday from May through October, will add a petting zoo, live music, and fresh and roasted corn to its usual vendor lineup. At 9 a.m., Gazelle Sports leads a group run and walk as part of the Shopping District's Second Sunday fitness series.
Birmingham Cruise Event: Saturday, Aug. 15
Nearly 200 classic cars will line South Old Woodward Avenue on Saturday, Aug. 15 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. for the Birmingham Cruise Event, according to the Birmingham Shopping District. Chevrolet is sponsoring interactive exhibits, WOMC 104.3 will broadcast live, and food trucks round out the day.
