A thief rifled through an unlocked vehicle in the 500 block of Wooddale Road and made off with a wallet and keys, the Bloomfield Township Police Department reported in its weekly media report released Aug. 17.
The victim told police on Sunday, Aug. 16, that someone had gone through the car the night before. The doors were unlocked. The vehicle was parked in the driveway with a key fob left inside, and the stolen credit card was later used at a gas station outside the area.
The case (No. 26-19498) has been turned over to the Bloomfield Township Investigations Unit. Anyone with information can call the department at 248-433-7755.
The incident echoes a pattern police have flagged before. On July 18, the department reported multiple larcenies from unlocked vehicles in a single night, including one in which a Glock 19 handgun was taken, according to Downtown Publications.
Two arrested in Target shoplifting
Officers caught two suspects mid-theft at the Target store at 2400 S. Telegraph Road on Thursday, Aug. 13, at 4:51 p.m.
A man and a woman were seen concealing items on their persons. Officers arrived and intercepted the pair walking down the stairs past all points of purchase. Recovered merchandise included a Polaroid camera, two boxes of camera film, two PlayStation video games and two gaming-controller accessories.
Both were arrested on suspicion of second-degree retail fraud, processed at the Bloomfield Township Police Department and released pending court appearances.

Bloomfield Township officers handled 694 calls for service during the week, including 289 traffic stops. They investigated 41 crashes: 18 property-damage, 14 hit-and-run, 7 personal-injury and 2 private-property incidents.
The 27 arrests broke down as follows: 11 for driving on a suspended license, four for operating while intoxicated, four on misdemeanor warrants, two for retail fraud, and one each for failure to report a crash, a Friend of the Court warrant, a license/title/registration violation, no operator's license, possession of narcotic equipment and a probation violation.
In the report, Lt. Nick Soley, the department's public information officer, urged residents to lock their vehicles, remove valuables and never leave keys inside.
